BioShock is one of those games that doesn't let go. The setting, the story, the moment Andrew Ryan hands you a golf club and you finally understand what "would you kindly" actually meant — that scene lives rent-free in my head for years. Big Daddy was the obvious first figure from that universe, because nothing else from Rapture carries the same weight: a massive deep-sea suit, a drill for an arm, and somehow a character you end up feeling sorry for.
I wanted to do this one right, which meant resin — the rivets, the hose connections, the texture of the armor plates and the rubble on the base are exactly the kind of detail that FDM either rounds off or buries under layer lines. The diorama base with the Rapture debris came out better than I expected, especially with Old Copper on top: dark base, copper drybrush over every raised surface, and the whole thing reads like something pulled out of the ocean after forty years.
Not a perfect figurine. But a Big Daddy that looks like it belongs in Rapture, and that's what I was going for.

BioShock to jedna z tych gier, które nie puszczają. Setting, historia, moment kiedy Andrew Ryan podaje ci kij golfowy i w końcu rozumiesz, co naprawdę znaczy "would you kindly" — ta scena siedzi mi w głowie od lat. Big Daddy był oczywistym pierwszym wyborem z tego uniwersum, bo nic innego z Rapture nie niesie takiego ciężaru: masywny kombinezon nurka, wiertło zamiast ręki i postać, której z jakiegoś powodu zaczyna się żałować.
Chciałem to zrobić porządnie, co oznaczało żywicę — nity, złącza rur, faktura pancerza i gruz na podstawie to dokładnie ten typ detali, który FDM albo zaokrągla, albo gubi pod liniami warstw. Dioramowa podstawa z szczątkami Rapture wyszła lepiej niż zakładałem, szczególnie z Old Copper na wierzchu: ciemna baza, miedziane światła drybrush na każdej wypukłości i całość wygląda jak coś wyciągniętego z oceanu po czterdziestu latach.
Nie jest perfekcyjna. Ale wygląda jak figurka, która należy do Rapture — i o to chodziło.
